Privacy Policy

This page describes what Cutflux actually does with your data today. It is written from the product code, not from a template. If something here does not match what you see, email us and we will fix the page or the product.
Who runs Cutflux
Cutflux is the beat-synced video editor at cutflux.app. You can reach us at hello@cutflux.app, and we answer privacy questions at the same address.
What we collect
Account information
When you sign in, your account is created in Google Firebase Authentication. Depending on how you sign in, that means your email address, your display name and profile photo if your sign-in provider supplies one, and a Firebase user ID. We do not run our own password database.
Your Cutflux record
We keep one document per user in Google Cloud Firestore. It holds only what the product needs to work:
- whether your account is premium;
- your Stripe customer ID and subscription ID and status, so billing and premium stay in sync;
- how many free exports you have used;
- the state of our onboarding emails (which ones were sent, and whether you unsubscribed).
Data stored in your browser
Cutflux saves editor preferences, a cached premium flag, onboarding state and your export counter in your browser's local storage. You can download a copy of it or wipe it yourself from Settings — the buttons are called Export as JSON and Clear local data.
Your videos, music and images
Editing and preview run in your browser. Files leave your device when a feature has to run on our servers — the main ones are cloud render/export and premium captions. In those cases the media you selected is uploaded to our render server, used for that one job, and then deleted. We do not keep a media library of your uploads, and your clips are not published anywhere by Cutflux.
How long files are kept
Short version: source files are deleted as soon as the render job ends, and the finished file is deleted by a timer roughly 25 minutes after the job starts. Download your export before then.
Precisely, as the server is written today:
- Uploaded video, extra video sources and uploaded music are deleted from the render server immediately after the job finishes — and also if the job fails.
- Temporary working folders created during a render are removed when the render step ends.
- A timer set when the job is created deletes the rendered output and any leftover files about 25 minutes later, and drops the job from the server's memory. Jobs that are stuck or abandoned are cleaned up by the same timer.
- Render servers are short-lived containers with temporary disks. Nothing about your media is written to a database.
Our server logs record job IDs, timings and error messages so we can debug failures. They do not contain your video content.
Payments
Payments are processed by Stripe. Checkout happens on Stripe's own pages. Cutflux never sees or stores your full card number. We store the Stripe customer and subscription identifiers Stripe gives us, so we know whether your account is premium. What Stripe itself collects is covered by Stripe's privacy policy.
Monthly and yearly checkouts include a $1 "Card verification" line that is refunded automatically. See Refunds & Cancellations for the details.
Services that receive data
| Service | What it receives | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Google Firebase (Authentication, Firestore, Hosting) | Your sign-in identity and your Cutflux user record | Accounts, premium state, serving the site |
| Stripe | Your email and payment details, entered on Stripe's pages | Subscriptions, the lifetime purchase, refunds |
| AssemblyAI | The audio or video you submit for premium captions | Speech-to-text with word timings |
| Resend | Your email address and the message we send | Delivery of account and onboarding email |
| Google Fonts | Your browser's request for font files | Page typography |
| Google Analytics for Firebase | Anonymous app usage events on some pages | Seeing which features get used |
Captions are a premium feature, so audio only goes to AssemblyAI if you are a premium user and you start a captions job. We do not sell your data, and we do not send your media to any advertising network.
Email we send
After you sign up we may send up to three short onboarding emails, plus account and billing email. Every onboarding email has an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing is recorded on your account so we stop.
Deleting your account
Go to Settings → Danger zone → Delete account. It runs for real: it cancels any active or trialing Stripe subscription linked to you, deletes your Firestore user document, and removes your Firebase Authentication record. You may be asked to sign in again first, because deletion requires a recent login. It cannot be undone. Stripe keeps its own payment records for its legal and accounting obligations, which we cannot delete on your behalf.
If you would rather have us do it, email hello@cutflux.app from the address on your account.
Children
Cutflux is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly create accounts for them. If you believe a child has an account, email us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
If we change how data is handled, we will update this page and the "Last updated" date above.
