If you're new to short-form video editing, some of these words are jargon. Here's what they actually mean — no music-theory degree required.

Beat the basics

A single rhythmic pulse in a song — the point you'd tap your foot to. Cutflux places cuts here so your video lines up with the music.

Beat grid what you'll see

The row of vertical tick-marks Cutflux draws on your song's waveform. Each tick is one beat where a cut can land. Drag any tick to nudge that cut.

Beat drop why it matters

The moment a song shifts intensity — usually a big bass hit or chorus opener. Cutflux marks these with a bigger dot so you can save your best shot for the drop.

Onset under the hood

The technical name for the sudden start of a sound. Beat detection scans for onsets to figure out where beats live. Cleaner audio = better onsets = tighter cuts.

BPM tempo

Beats per minute. 120 BPM is a typical pop song; 140+ is hyperpop or EDM. Higher BPM = faster cuts.

Cut the basics

Hook viral stuff

The first 1–3 seconds of a short — the part that stops the scroll. Weak hook = nobody watches the rest. Try the hook generator if you're stuck.
